Kahn - Angeles

Like many of Kahns previous tracks, Angeles takes a catchy vocal progression, cuts it up and uses it as a coagulant for his liquid synth and understated drums. Pure garage influence on this one, the level of restraint is perfect, with the omnipresence of it about to really kick off throughout the tune, and knowing what Kahn is like with VIP's, expect a punchier reiteration in the future. A solid follow up to the recent Margeaux EP, with a stronger and accessible vibe, it is definately more dancefloor friendly, albeit in a completely different way to the recently (and limitedly) pressed, aptly named Percy.
Dropped a week or so ago digitally, vinyl also out now, release by Bristols Soul Motive. Remix by Superisk on the flip.

Aeroplane - We can't fly

The only problem with Aeroplane is that I can never find all of his songs in one place, just as I think I have collected all he has another will come to my attention, this is exactly what happened with this. ‘We Can’t fly’ was released over a year ago it’s the album with the same name, but this came to my attention with a remix from The Glimmers. However the remix or any remixes of this track can’t hold a torch to it as the original has so much to offer.
It starts with bongos in almost a chilled trance track but then molds itself into a reggae style French house mix match with harmonic choir and then dips into a 80s funk beat with a synth that reminds me of Scfi-fi B movie . This tune offers everything with jabbing piano chords, oceanic keyboard washes & menacing synth burbles and they all complement each other perfectly.

Ghosts of Venice - Don't Stop the Music

One of our stand out acts of 2011, Ghosts of Venice, from Leeds have taken this popular 1980s Yarbrough & People’s classic and rework it for the present day, with filtered synths and big bass this is a house come disco track that encapsulates what the Nu-disco genre is all about and may it have a long fruitful revival.

Due to be released on the 6th February from Hed Kandi.

Treasure Fingers - Take My Hand

This reminds me of house music from my youth, being in a sweaty club dressed to the nines whilst thumping subs with looped funk infused beats pounded through the airwaves. Good times had by all, and Defected records know a talented producer/DJ when they hear one.

That is why they snapped up the Brooklyn based, Ashley Scott Jones as soon as they could. This new track is just as special as his others which I have added after the jump.

This track was released today and I expect more from him in 2012, as he is already a grandesque figure on the club music scene with remixes of Chromeo, Alex Metric, Empire of the Sun, Miike Snow and  Tensnake all under his belt.
